Since it appears my first blog post went to the right place, I wanted to say that I opened a book this week and couldn't come up for air until I was done!
I read Radna: diary of a woman's search
It is the diary of an American dancer in the 1950's who goes to India to find her guru, Swami Sivanda Saraswati.
At one point, she is speaking to a Swamiji who lives in a mountain cave. The tiny white-haired man plops down in her lap, laughing, "Look! I am sitting on the lap of the Divine Mother!" How wonderful!
It was a compelling story of her spiritual development with some beautiful moments to meditate on:
"A child does not need to go in search of its mother. Why do we have these uncertainties about God?"
"When we invite a friend to our home, we see that our house is clean and comfortable. How much more should we clean out our minds when we invite God to come in?"
"Spirituality must be practiced, must be lived."
"The spiritual atmosphere has taken possession of me to such an extent that all my critical thoughts have just disappeared. . . It is not because of my effort to control my mind; it has just happened that there is no more room for such negative thoughts."
"To be peaceful, to be calm, to radiate joy, to have an intense aspiration and devotion, to have a spirit of service--this is yoga."
"To be good, to do good--this should be our ideal."
"If you develop one virtue, Satyam or truthfulness, all virtues will follow. "
Love to all you Hunters.
